Brexit

Alas, it is still almost totally unclear what Brexit will look like.  The Prime Minister still has no idea.  The longer this goes on, the weaker our country’s bargaining position will be. 

The House of Commons has created a new Select Committee to scrutinise the work of the Government’s new Brexit Department. Labour has 5 of the 20 MPs on that Committee, and I am pleased that both Pat and Emma were voted onto it by Labour MPs.

A study commissioned by The British Beer and Pub Association has released the results of the study it commissioned from the leading independent analysts, Oxford Economics.  It shows that the brewing and pub sector makes a huge economic contribution to the city.  These new figures from the BBPA show that the sector supports almost 3,000 jobs, with 71 pubs, and provides £169 million in value-added to the local economy.

On 1 December community pharmacies in Wolverhampton and around the country will have their budgets cut significantly by the government.

The planned cuts were discussed at the full council meeting on 9 November.  The council passed a resolution condemning the cuts.  Every Labour councillor present voted in favour, and every Conservative councillor present voted against.

Eight years ago, the Labour government created the Department for Energy & Climate Change (DECC).  The goal was to signal the huge importance of our country doing its bit to tackle climate change.  In summer 2016, the new Prime Minister Mrs May abolished DECC the day after she moved into Downing Street. That shows her priorities.
